Aston Villa’s Frederic Guilbert excited to face Liverpool, praises Trent Alexander-Arnold

The defender clearly rates the Reds.

Frederic Guilbert of Aston Villa has named Liverpool as the Premier League side he is most looking forward to facing and named Trent Alexander-Arnold as the world’s best right back.

As per Aston Villa’s official website, the Frenchman displayed his admiration for what Jurgen Klopp is doing at Anfield, as well as £40,000-a-week (Spotrac) Englishman Alexander-Arnold.

Asked if there was a top flight side he was looking forward to facing, Guilbert said: “I’d go for Liverpool. I admire the way they play the game and the way they see the game. I like the style of Jurgen Klopp. They are a very good team.”

And on the subject of who is the best player in his position, he stated: “For me, the best right-back at this moment is Trent Alexander-Arnold. In terms of left-back, I really have big respect for Marcelo at Real Madrid.”

TBR’s View – Alexander-Arnold is as good as any right back going forward but needs to improve defensively

Alexander-Arnold grew up as a midfielder and it shows in the way that he bombs forward and delivers crosses at will, picking up a huge amount of assists.

But Klopp does sometimes drop him out of the side for certain tests, which belies the fact that his defensive work needs to improve at times.

That’s what will cement his place in the England squad, where fellow young rival Aaron Wan-Bissaka has the opposite problem – he’s brilliant defensively, but lacks a cutting edge going forward.
