Aston Villa’s decision to release Jordan Lyden makes sense for both parties

Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Lyden has taken to Instagram to confirm rumours that he is set to leave this summer.

Lyden’s contract is expiring in the summer and Aston Villa are ready to let him go after several years in the West Midlands.

The Australian midfielder has been unlucky with injuries, which have prevented him from staking a real claim for a first-team spot at Aston Villa.

And this exit could be a sensible career move as Lyden needs a fresh start elsewhere to stay injury-free and kick-start his career.

After making his debut in January 2016, Lyden has managed just eight senior appearances for Aston Villa. His last outing came in September 2017.

At the beginning of this season, the former Australia under-20 international was sent out on loan to League Two side Oldham Athletic.

But after impressing with one goal in 14 appearances, Lyden suffered another serious injury in early January to hamper his progress.

Aston Villa have shown faith in the 23-year-old through his various injury problems but it is now the time to part ways.

Lyden needs the opportunity to show what he can do at another club and hopefully he can remain fit for a whole season to get his career back on track.
