Aston Villa’s best summer business is plainly obvious

Aston Villa are in fantastic shape right now.

The club have made a blistering start to 2020/21, winning all three of their Premier League games so far.

The incredible 7-2 win against Liverpool on Sunday is still fresh in the minds of fans and likely will never be forgotten.

It is safe to say that Villa have done some really good business in the transfer window.

Matty Cash has made an assured start at right-back. Bertrand Traore’s debut goal would suggest he’ll be someone capable of providing real quality and flair.

Emi Martinez from Arsenal was simply a brilliant coup and will be worth a healthy amount of points for Dean Smith over the course of the season.

Ollie Watkins was pricey, but he’s already scored five goals in all competitions and looks to be the answer to Villa’s previous issues in attack.

And loan signing Ross Barkley will have a point to prove at Villa Park.

Some super additions, but arguably none of those players can lay claim to being Villa’s best bit of business.

TBR’s View – Grealish contract extension was colossal

Grealish’s recent contract extension prompted sighs for relief for Villa supporters far and wide.

The playmaker penning fresh terms was a major deal, and we are already seeing the fruits of the labour that went into convincing him to commit his future.

Grealish has started 2020/21 like a man on a mission.

He’s been practically unplayable so far and made a mockery of one of the best teams in the world with two goals and three assists the other night.

Villa have brought in some brilliant players  – worth around £85 million according to Sky Sports – but none of those deals are bigger for Villa than Grealish.
