Aston Villa’s Andre Green again struggling to impose himself out on loan

This summer saw Aston Villa send talented winger Andre Green out on loan again. Last season Green had an unsuccessful and injury struck spell on loan at Portsmouth before returning to Villa Park in January.

The 21-year-old went on to play 22 times for Dean Smith’s side and help them win promotion to the Premier League.

Undoubtedly, he would have then wanted to get a chance in the Aston Villa first-team in the top tier. However, with Aston Villa strengthening in his position Green was again allowed to head out on loan.

He headed to Championship side Preston North End. The plan was clear. Green gets plenty of first-team football in the second-tier once again and returns to Aston Villa ready for Premier League football.

Unfortunately, that has not been the case.

Despite scoring on his full debut in an EFL Cup win over Bradford City he has been used sparingly at Deepdale up until now.

He has played just three times in the Championship. He featured in Preston’s only two defeats of the season against Millwall and Swansea City as Alex Neil’s side continue an impressive start to the new season.

Green, however, has been somewhat left in the cold.

He has not played for the club since August and has not been in the matchday squad for their last four Championship fixtures.

Once again, a loan deal away from Aston Villa in the division below is not going well for Green and he will have a struggle fighting his way into a team that currently sits third in the Championship.
