Aston Villa will be hoping for positive news as Tammy Abraham picks up injury on international duty

Aston Villa have been left sweating over the fitness of star striker Tammy Abraham after he had to pull out of training on international duty.

Abraham missed Wednesday morning’s training session as a precaution, Press Association journalist Nick Mashiter confirmed.

The twice-capped England international is with the under-21 squad but he might be forced to withdraw from the squad to face Poland.

And Aston Villa fans will be praying that it is merely a precaution, rather than anything more serious as Abraham plays a key role in their promotion hopes.

The Villans are the division’s in-form side and will fancy their chances of winning the play-offs if they can keep their momentum going.

But Abraham is crucial to the way Aston Villa play, providing a target up front and getting in the right positions to tuck away his chances.

The 21-year-old, who is on loan from Chelsea, is significantly better than Aston Villa’s back-up striker options.

Losing Abraham for a significant period of time is a real concern for Aston Villa, who need the young striker fit and firing for the run-in.

Aston Villa fans will be hoping that Abraham is given sufficient rest and that he will be available after the international break.
