Report: Gerrard wants £29m star who Tottenham and Paratici want in London
Aston Villa head into the January window looking to help Steven Gerrard strengthen the ranks and according to the Daily Mail, they have eyes on Tottenham target, Dejan Kulusevski.
The Mail have ran their transfer special as the window kicks into gear in January. And in their section on Aston Villa, it lists Kulusevski as a player Gerrard could bring into the club.
However, as we know, the Villans will face competition from Tottenham. The Swedish star is on the radar of Spurs supremo Fabio Paratici, and Juventus are said to be open to a £29m deal. Kulusevski has not quite hit the heights many expected he would since signing for Juve. Despite backing from Cristiano Ronaldo in the past, he’s scored just eight times in Turin in nearly 70 appearances.
A January move for the young winger is a real possibility. Along with Tottenham, Arsenal have also been credited with holding an interest. But Steven Gerrard and Villa might look to scupper the London duo by offering a guarantee of first-team football in the Midlands.
TBR’s View: Kulusevski To Villa Would Be Quite A Statement
If Gerrard can somehow beat Arsenal and Tottenham to a signing in his first window in charge then it would be quite the message from Villa Park. They mean business, and will back their new man to the hilt.
Kulusevski is a fine talent. Villa did spend big in the summer but it’s safe to say that the replacements brought in for Jack Grealish haven’t quite fired as they’d like. Players like Bailey and Buendia, only offering glimpses thus far.
Of course, there is a similar risk in signing Kulusevski. He’s a young player with a lot to prove. But the fact he is so coveted in Europe and has been at a huge club like Juve, surely stands him in good stead if Villa do come knocking.
