Aston Villa have reportedly set their sights on a 20-year-old who Sir Alex Ferguson apparently urged Manchester United to sign a few years ago.
The Villans are one of several clubs in pursuit of Peterborough United defender Ronnie Edwards, according to Sky Sports News.
As well as Aston Villa, the likes of Crystal Palace and West Ham are reportedly targeting the centre-back.
The report adds that Peterborough want a £4.5million payment up front for Edwards, as well as “sizeable add-ons”.
In terms of a full price tag, The Independent has reported that Posh are after £10million in total for their in-demand player.

Aston Villa target Ronnie Edwards comes with Sir Alex Ferguson seal of approval
Villa are flying high at present. It’s a good time for them to try and sign great players and prospects now they’re challenging for the Premier League title.
Meanwhile, Peterborough have made quite a name for themselves as a treasure trove. And Edwards looks like the next Posh talent destined for big things.
Indeed, England U21 manager Lee Carsley is reportedly expected to be in attendance for Peterborough’s FA Cup third-round tie against Leeds to watch Edwards.
At just 20 years of age, Edwards has already made 116 appearances for the League One club.
He’s a classy centre-back adept at playing out from the back, composed on the ball, great at reading the game, and dangerous going forwards.
In 2021, The Sun reported that Sir Alex Ferguson had urged the Red Devils to make a move for him. That’s how talented Edwards is.
Now, could Villa succeed where Man United have failed? Could Unai Emery and co bring one of the EFL’s most exciting talents to the Premier League?
