Aston Villa took a huge step towards cementing a Championship play-off place with a 2-1 win over Rotherham.

Villa trailed in the game and played for the entire second half with ten men following Tyrone Mings’ dismissal.

Will Vaulks opened the scoring for the Millers.

Class shone through though and Jonathan Kodjia and Jack Grealish goals ensured a seventh win in succession for Dean Smith’s team.

None of their rivals for a top-six place will fancy coming up against an in-form Villa side in a two-legged play-off fixture.

One disappointment from the evening was that Mings will now miss the weekend’s massive game with Bristol City.

The on-loan Bournemouth defender has been in great form since arriving in January.

His presence at the heart of the back four has been a vital component of Smith’s team that has looked irresistible of late.

Mings accepted that his red card was justified and took to Twitter after the game to offer his thoughts.

Naturally, the spirit around Villa Park is sound at the moment and the Villa faithful couldn’t be too hard on the 26-year-old

Despite an error of judgement from the defender, the supporters jumped to his defence on Twitter.
