Aston Villa transfer news: Unai Emery makes move to sign 'very good' forward

Italian journalist Marco Conterio claims Aston Villa have now made their move to sign Udinese attacker Gerard Deulofeu – and Unai Emery is a huge fan of the player.

Emery has got off to a brilliant start at Villa Park and has picked up some impressive results since replacing Steven Gerrard.

The Villains have picked up wins against the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, while their 2-1 victory over Leeds on Friday saw them move up to 11th in the Premier League table.

Despite a positive run of results, Emery will be keen to re-shape the Villa squad in his image and the club have already brought in Alex Moreno and Jhon Duran this month.

Now, it seems that Emery is targeting a move for Deulofeu – a player he once managed during his days at La Liga outfit Sevilla.

Villa make move to sign Deulofeu

Tuttomercatoweb’s Conterio claims Villa have already made contact with Udinese over the possibility of signing Deulofeu this month.

Emery is keen to reunite with the 28-year-old after working with him in Spain and the player is keen on a return to the Premier League.

Deulofeu enjoyed a decent spell at Everton between 2015 and 2017 before re-joining Barcelona.

The Spanish forward returned to England once again with Watford just a year later and performed well under Javi Garcia, which led to Emery praising his performances during his time at Arsenal.

“It is a positive for Deulofeu,” Emery told the Evening Standard back in 2019.

“He is a very good player and is now getting better, taking more confidence and gaining more experience – he is playing very well.

“He made the difference last week against Wolves in the FA Cup semi-final with two amazing goals. I like him a lot. I think Javi is doing great work with him and he is showing now a big performance and also I think Watford supporters are enjoying him.”

Deulofeu has been a standout performer for Udinese over the past 18-months while operating as a striker. He’s managed 15 goals and 11 assists since the beginning of last season.

While Deulofeu didn’t quite manage to live up to his potential in the Premier League, he showed flashes of brilliance during his time at Goodison Park.

But Villa fans may have been expecting their club to be linked with more exciting names, especially after they have been bold in the transfer window since returning to the Premier League.

That being said, if Emery wants Deulofeu at Villa Park, then the club will have to back their manager’s opinion. The Spaniard has worked with him in the past so he must feel that he’ll be a good addition to his squad.
