Aston Villa have been told that Crystal Palace are open to selling Christian Benteke to them during the current transfer window, according to the Daily Telegraph.
They report that Palace will not consider a loan move – at this stage of the transfer window, although things could change as the days tick by.
Villa have lost Wesley to a long-term injury and are scouring the market for fresh firepower to add to their bid for Premier League survival.
Benteke was sensational during his time at Villa Park – playing the best football of his career, scoring 42 Premier League goals before departing to join Liverpool in 2015.

TBR’s View – Benteke’s recent form resembles Wesley but Villa know how good he can be
Before Wesley’s injury, there was frustration about his ability to find the back of the net with regularity and concerns over his all round play.
Due to the way the £27 million (BBC) man’s confidence has nosedived at Palace, that description could easily apply to Benteke at this moment in time as well.
But Villa fans know how good he can be when he’s on his best form and would have to hope that a return to the club where he played by far the best football of his career would reinvigorate him.
It remains to be seen whether Villa would stump up the cash to buy Benteke back at a time when they may more likely be on the hunt for a loan swoop.
