Aston Villa told 24-year-old should be fined £60,000 after what he did vs Man City last night

Aston Villa were well beaten by Manchester City on Wednesday evening.

The Villans were the victims of a bit of a thrashing at the Etihad in midweek as City put four past Unai Emery’s side.

Phil Foden took most of his headlines with his fantastic hat-trick, but while many were focused on the positive performances in that game, Don Hutchison has singled one player out in particular for criticism.

The Aston Villa player who should’ve been fined after last night

Speaking on ESPN, Hutchison pointed the finger at Nicolo Zaniolo.

The pundit stated that he thought the Italian’s lack of bravery in the Aston Villa wall was shameful, claiming that he really chickened out when tasked with blocking Phil Foden’s shot.

“It’s criminal, this is why I couldn’t be a coach or a manager because I would’ve done Zaniolo a week’s wages it was that bad. It’s a lack of bravery, you’re standing in the wall and the coaches have put you in the wall to take one for the team, he’s chickened out of it, it’s a no-no,” Hutchison said.

Nicolo Zaniolo should’ve done better

While fining a player a week’s wages is very harsh, it has to be said that Zaniolo should’ve done a lot better here.

Zaniolo really didn’t cover himself in glory on this occasion, and we’re sure that Unai Emery gave him a real dressing down after the game.

A fine would be drastic – that would be £60,000 considering Zaniolo’s current wages, but there should be some sort of disciplinary action taken after this incident, even if it’s just a case of doing some extra training or something else in order to make amends.

Aston Villa need to show some steel if they’re going to secure a top four finish this season, and, sadly, at the moment, that aspect of the game is lacking for certain players.
