Aston Villa are currently leading the chasing pack for a Costa Rica international that has impressed at the Copa America tournament this year according to French newspaper Le Dauphiné Libéré. The Central American nation impressed at the World Cup as well, managing to secure a quarter-final finish despite being drawn in the “group of death”, and 24-year-old defensive midfielder Yeltsin Tejeda was one of the players to attract interest from their side.
Tejeda has plied his trade at French side Evian, who have deteriorated in recent years and suffered back to back relegation’s from Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, leaving them now in the National league. The Costa Rican does not believe that his international career will continue to flourish in the third tier of French football, and is actively looking for a move away.
Spanish side Getafe are also linked with the player, but Aston Villa are supposedly favourites to make Yeltsin Tejeda their second summer signing this year as new manager Roberto Di Matteo looks to rebuild his squad to try and return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Villa have signed talent from South America before, in the form of Carlos Sanchez, who has not necessarily had the easiest of careers during his time at Villa Park. The back-room staff at Aston Villa will be sure to not make a similar error with their transfers this season by thoroughly scouting the player.
A tireless midfielder for The Villains, Ashley Westwood is being linked with a move straight back to the Premier League with Burnley interested in his services, according to the Mail Online. Sean Dyche is prepared to offer a sum of around £6 million for the English midfielder who has received mixed emotions from the Villa faithful in the past season.
Many fans believe that Westwood; who joined from Crewe Alexandra in 2012, would flourish in the Championship. In hindsight, Aston Villa may be wise to cash in on Westwood while they still can.
The staff at Villa Park should however consider the careers of the likes of Barry Bannan and Marc Albrighton; who have significantly improved during their time away from Aston Villa. All options must be thought through, in order to make sure that Westwood is not another diamond in the rough for another side.
After struggling in various positions last season, Aston Villa are looking at improving their goalkeeping options by attempting to sign Juventus goalkeeper Nicola Leali according to The Express.
Leali is Juventus’ third choice goalkeeper and will surely continue to fail in a search for game time while Gianluigi Buffon remains at the club. For the good of the individual’s career, it seems that the Old Lady of Italian football will let Leali go on loan again.
The ‘keeper is fairly young in goalkeeping terms and may not yet have a vast amount of experience, but seems a good bet for Villa. They would obtain a decent goalkeeper for the Championship level, and better yet, would not have to part with too much money. However, with the recent performances of Michael McGovern for the Northern Irish international side, he may be a better and more experienced option.
A host of clubs in Spain are interested in Leali as well, and it is thought to be his favoured move rather than one to Birmingham.
