In terms of surprise shouts for the January transfer window, they don’t come any more ‘out there’ than Roberto Firmino leaving Liverpool to join Aston Villa.
But that’s the feeling of Talksport pundit Tony Cascarino, who believes Villa will move for a top striker in the window and hasn’t ruled out the possibility of Firmino being the one.

Speaking on Talksport this morning, Cascarino revealed how he feels someone like Firmino shouldn’t be out of the realms of possibility for Villa and new manager, Steven Gerrard.
“It’s only my gut feeling. I think they’ll go for one big Liverpool player. I’ve got a feeling, I wouldn’t be surprised if Firmino went to Villa,” Cascarino said.
“And I say that because there’s always puzzles to managers and their former clubs. They love going back to people they work with. Danny Ings hasn’t worked out at Villa. I think Ollie Watkins needs a type of Firmino player to get the best out of him. They’re (Villa) going big. Now, people might say Klopp will never let him go. But he’s been a sub way too often. Jota has took his place at Liverpool.”
Firmino, as Cascarino points out, is very much on the fringes for now. However, with Mane and Salah off to Africa in January, he is likely to be needed.
TBR’s View: Firmino to Aston Villa? We Don’t Think So
What a shout from Cascarino. But in all honesty, what a bad shout!
There is simply no way that Liverpool sell Roberto Firmino to Villa. Not a chance. Especially during January when they’ll need the Brazilian anyway.
Villa do have ambition and Gerrard is a big pull. However, this won’t happen. And if it does, then we’ll apologise to Cascarino and admit Villa have pulled off one of the best signings ever!
