Aston Villa would be making a brilliant addition to their squad if they signed reported target Lewis Dunk from Brighton.
According to the Sun, the 6ft 4in defender is a target for manager Dean Smith as he eyes recruits for his backline.
The 27-year-old is believed to be close to a £30million switch to Leicester City (Teamtalk), but Villa are now in the hunt.
Dunk is exactly the type of signing that should excite fans and also help them massively on their return to the Premier League.
The Midlands giants will need to improve defensively to survive in the top-flight and adding the Brighton leader would be genius.
Dunk has had a couple of seasons commanding the Brighton back four and helping them retain their Premier League status for back-to-back campaign.
He’s a colossus centre-back that is rarely beaten in the air and his arrival would inject quality to Smith’s defence, with his composure on the ball another key feature too.
His quoted £30million price would be a concern, but Villa are already showing plenty of ambition following their promotion and there is no doubt the defence needs an upgrade for the step up in class.
Dunk has one senior international cap and there are perhaps plenty more if he can continue to impress.
