Aston Villa are reportedly interested in re-signing their former player Barry Bannan from Sheffield Wednesday.
According to the Mirror, current manager Dean Smith is plotting an £8million raid for the January transfer window to try sign the 28-year-old.
The Owls midfielder is in the sights of Villa for the winter window and he would be a dream signing for the Midlands club.
Smith is believed to be keen on adding the Scotsman and he could slot in perfectly to his side, providing some extra creativity and flair.
Bannan has become a crucial player for Wednesday in recent years and proven that he can make the difference in the Championship.
The deep-lying playmaker helps control the tempo of the game for his side and it’s a role that Smith may want him to fulfil at Villa.
He is a 5ft 6in pocket-sized midfielder that is technically brilliant on the ball, but also has a no-nonsense approach to his defending too.
It seems a no-brainer for Villa to try bring him back to the club and they’d have an eye-catching midfield trio of Bannan, Jack Grealish and John McGinn if he re-signed.
Bannan could provide a great goalscoring threat from the centre of the park and it may take signings of his quality to get the current Villa side pushing for promotion this season.
