Despite a somewhat poor start to the season, new manager Paul Lambert has had no trouble bringing in new players at Villa Park.
Here we look at all the deals completed at Villa this summer.
Brett Holman – AZ Alkmaar –Free
Holman officially became a Villa player on the 1st July on a free transfer. The 28-year-old Belgian plays most commonly as a winger.
Last season, for AZ Alkmaar, Holman played 24 leagues matches, scoring 4 goals in total.
He’s already featured twice for Villa in both of their opening league fixtures, starting once.
Karim El Ahmadi – Feyenoord – Undisclosed
Villa signed the 27-year-old Moroccan international at the start of the summer window, for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £2,000,000. Ahmadi became Lamberts first signing as manager of the club.
The ex-Feyenoord player plays as a defensive midfielder. Having joined Villa, he has already started two games, scoring once in the clubs 3-1 defeat to Everton.
Matthew Lowton – Sheffield United – Undisclosed
Aston Villa signed Matthew Lowton from Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee.
The 23 year old is capable of playing in a variety of positions across the back four, but operates most commonly as a right sided defender.
Lowton made the move from League 1 after making 46 appearances for Sheffield United in their pursuit of promotion to the Championship. Since making the move to the Midland club, he has started 2 Premier League matches.
Ron Vlaar – Feyenoord – Undisclosed
Vlaar became Lambert’s third summer recruit after making the move to Villa from Feyenoord for a reported £3.2 million.
The centre back played 132 games in total for the Dutch outfit, he’s also featured for Holland at both under 21 and senior level.
Since joining Lambert’s side, Vlaar has played twice for the Claret and Blues, starting in both matches.
Joe Bennett – Middlesbrough – Undisclosed
Lambert signed England under 21 Joe Bennett from Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee.
The left-back became the fifth new face brought to Villa Park this summer after completing his transfer on the penultimate day of the window.
Bennett made 41 appearances in the Championship for Middlesbrough last season and was named the North East Football Writers’ Association’s young player of the year.
Ashley Westwood – Crewe – Undisclosed
Crewe captain, Westwood joined Villa within the last hours of the summer window on a four year deal.
The 22-year-old midfielder helped Crewe gain promotion to League 1 last season and has now been given the chance to prove himself in the top flight.
Christian Benteke – Genk – Undisclosed
Before the window closed, the club announced the signing of Belgium international striker Christian Benteke.
Benteke has netted three times in five games this season after being on target 18 times during the 2011-12 campaign in all competitions.
He was also scored for his country for the first time in the 4-2 win over Holland earlier this month in what was his fifth cap.
Jordan Bowery – Chesterfield – £500k
Yesterday evening, Villa confirmed they have completed the signing of Chesterfield striker Jordan Bowery for an undisclosed fee on a three-year contract.
Bowery played 40 games for Chesterfield in League One last season and also made eight appearances in Cups, scoring 12 goals in all competitions.
The 21-year-old is seen as a player for the future by Paul Lambert.
