Aston Villa host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday night in the last-16 of the Carabao Cup and it will be a great opportunity for some fringe players to impress.

Villa will take a temporary break to focus on the cup, where they are competing to reach the quarter-finals of the competition.

Manager Dean Smith has confirmed (Express and Star) that Keinan Davis and Conor Hourihane are two players that will come into the side against Wolves.

It would be no surprise to see wholesale changes in the fixture to allow players recovery for the fight against relegation in the league, with the weekend’s fixture at home to leaders Liverpool.

Davis is a player that should be extremely excited about the midweek fixture and there is no reason he can’t send out a huge statement.

The 21-year-old is going to come into the XI against Premier League opposition Wolves and a strong performance should really enhance his reputation, while also increase his chances in the league.

Davis has been with the Villa first-team squad this season, but has played a supportive role to main striker Wesley Moraes.

Davis has featured as a substitute in six league games so far and is yet to earn his first start in the top-flight.

The centre-forward has given some impressive cameos off the bench, while in the two previous rounds of the cup he’s managed a goal and an assist.

He’s a powerful attacker that can lead the line well with his strength, while he’s got brilliant hold-up play and brings others into the game.

With Wesley still trying to win over some people after a mixed start to his Villa career, it could be a major opportunity against Wolves for promising youngster Davis to put some pressure on him.
