Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish shared his delight on social media after he started England’s 3-0 win over Republic of Ireland on Thursday night at Wembley.

The Three Lions beat Ireland convincingly in a friendly with goals from Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Gareth Southgate’s men were warming up for a Nations League double header against Belgium and Iceland in the next week.

Grealish, who has been on fire domestically this season, earned his third senior international cap for England last night and slotted into a left-winger role that has served some so well of late.

The 25-year-old attacker assisted Borussia Dortmund’s Sancho for his first-half goal and perhaps Southgate has given an indication that he’ll be featuring in the upcoming Nations League games, as he was substituted off on the hour mark.

Grealish posted on Instagram after England’s win, which promoted responses from Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips and Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell.

TBR’s View:

Despite it taking Grealish some time to break into the England national team, it now looks like he’s here to stay for the long-term as he once again delivered an encouraging individual performance at Wembley.

It shows that he’s playing with such confidence right now in the way he’s heavily involved in the final third and he loves the ball at his feet, adding a bit of extra quality and directness to the attack.

The Villa talisman has scored five goals and managed five assists in just eight club games across all competitions this season, which shows the kind of improvement he’s made to his game and why he’s forced Southgate’s hand into using him on the international stage.
