Aston Villa star Frederic Guilbert responds when asked about return to Bordeaux
Aston Villa man Frederic Guilbert has been asked if he would consider a return to Bordeaux on his Instagram story by a fan, and the right-back responded by describing the Ligue 1 side as a “magnificent club”.
Guilbert, 24, joined Aston Villa in January from SM Caen for £5million (Birmingham Mail) but was immediately loaned back to Caen for the rest of the 2018-19 campaign. He finally linked up with the newly-promoted Premier League side in the summer.
The French defender has now broke into the Villa side and started the last six Premier League games. He laid on an assist for Anwar El Ghazi in the 2-2 draw with Burnley, and even scored in the Carabao Cup against Crewe Alexandra.
Joining Bordeaux as a teenager in 2014, Guilbert made 46 appearances for the French side and a supporter of the Ligue 1 outfit asked if he would consider returning. Guilbert stated he is happy at Villa, but did not rule out a return.
The message is translated as: “Bordeaux is a magnificent club with great people. It did not end as I would have wanted but it is a club that I like. But for now, I am fine at Aston Villa.”
TBR’s view – Is Guilbert proving value for money at Villa?
Yes. At just £5million, Guilbert is improving with every performance and is certainly looking to be a bargain for the newly-promoted Premier League side. So much so, that Villa would probably only consider a sale for a fee above £10million.
It is clear, though, that Guilbert is fond of Bordeaux and if the French side come calling for their former player, it will be interesting to see if the defender would ignore their interest – or look to move back to his old side.
