Aston Villa star Emi Martinez sends message to Tottenham star on Instagram
Aston Villa star Emi Martinez is amongst those who have wished Tottenham Hotspur ace Cristian Romero well after he spoke of his injury and road to recovery on social media.
The Villans goalkeeper is a teammate of the Spurs ace in the Argentina national squad.
Martinez and Romero lifted the Copa America with the Albiceleste last summer and helped the nation reach the 2022 World Cup in November.
The Spurs centre-back suffered a hamstring injury playing for Argentina in last month’s World Cup qualifier against Brazil.
Tottenham boss Antonio Conte admitted in midweek that Romero’s injury was “very serious” and that he didn’t expect to see him back in action until next year.
On Friday afternoon, the 23-year-old took to social media with a message which read: “My dream year in every way. It ends like this, unfortunately.
“My first muscle injury and of this magnitude. Now with my head on my recovery and eager to return.”
Villa goalkeeper Martinez was just one of many who responded with messages of support – he wrote “mi central” (“my centre-back”).
Romero had enjoyed a superb 2021 prior to his injury.
As well as winning the Copa America and sealing a big move to Spurs, he was named the best defender in Serie A last season for his heroics with Atalanta.
Romero has made 13 appearances for Spurs and has won 10 caps for Argentina.
Martinez, who has made 51 appearances for Villa, is also a relative newcomer to the national side, with 14 caps to his name.
