In May, Birmingham Live linked Aston Villa with a move for Dwight Gayle. The striker would be an excellent signing for the Villans, and Dean Smith should still be considering this option.
It is extremely unlikely that Gayle has a future with his current club, Newcastle United, having been loaned out to West Brom last season. The 28-year-old shone for the Baggies in the Championship. Over the course of his campaign at the Hawthorns, Gayle bagged 23 goals and registered eight assists in the second tier.
West Brom’s bitter rivals, Aston Villa, should now swoop for the forward. Dean Smith will be desperate to bring a goalscorer to Villa Park following his side’s promotion to the Premier League and the expiration of Tammy Abraham’s loan stint with the club.
If Villa are to survive, and thrive, in the top flight, then they will need a clinical finisher to lead the line. Gayle represents a relatively affordable option and would fit the bill well.
Gayle would be a fine addition to the squad at Villa Park. His arrival would take Smith’s side a step closer to being ready for life in the Premier League.
