Aston Villa should hijack reported interest in striker Sam Cosgrove

Aston Villa currently sit 18th in the Premier League table as it stands and it looks like they are firmly going to be in a relegation battle during the rest of the season.

It would be a success to avoid promotion following the return to the top-flight, but manager Dean Smith could do with some more reinforcements in the January transfer window.

The Midlands giants could certainly do wth some more competition in attack, as they look light in the striker department and are having to rely on goals from the likes of Jack Grealish and Conor Hourihane.

Villa’s first-choice forward Wesley Moraes has four league goals so far this season and can go missing in games, while Jonathan Kodjia is yet to open his account in the league.

They should turn attention to another striker to boost competition and Aberdeen’s Sam Cosgrove should be on their radar.

According to the Scottish Sun, the Championship quartet of Leeds United, Derby County, Middlesbrough and Stoke City are all eyeing the Scottish Premiership star.

But Villa should consider offering the 23-year-old a route straight to the Premier League and he’s someone that could be a great target.

Cosgrove has scored 20 goals in just 26 appearances this season across all competitions for Aberdeen, which included six during the club’s Europa League qualifying fixtures.

He’s a powerful centre-forward that has been thriving in the Dons attack this season and scored against Celtic at the weekend.

It looks like he would be a decent fit for the physicality of the Premier League and he’s an in-form confident player that would mix it up at Villa.
