This summer saw Aston Villa consistently linked with a move for Adam Webster. As reported by the Bristol Post, the newly-promoted side had a £12 million bid for the centre-back rejected in the summer. The report claimed that the Championship side were looking for a fee in the region od £25 million.
Webster is now about to conclude a £25 million move away from Ashton Gate this week. As reported by The Guardian, Brighton are closing in on a deal to secure his signature.
Aston Villa, however, should not feel too disheartened regarding missing out on the player.

The club have done well to strengthen their centre-back options without splashing out on Webster.
Aston Villa had to spend big to sign Tyrone Mings. However, given his performances for the club last season, that was a deal that they were always happy to make happen. They then secured both Ezri Konsa and Bjorn Engels at very reasonable rates compared to the huge sum being paid for Webster.
There is no doubt that the Robins defender is talented. However, another £25 million on top of Aston Villa’s spending so far this season would have been a big risk from the club.
