Aston Villa have been busy rebuilding their squad this summer with no fewer than nine players added to Dean Smith’s ranks.
It is something of a squad overhaul from the side that won promotion to the Premier League, with 10 players departing.
One man doesn’t rate Villa’s summer business, however.
Former Premier League gaffer Sam Allardyce believes they have added too many players to the squad.
He was speaking as a pundit on Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast on Talk Sport and slammed the recruitment.
The ex-Everton manager said: “I have to question the quality if £100 million is stretching over nine players. For that money, I want three players. Integrating all the new signings into the squad is an extremely difficult job.”
Allardyce has been out of football since leaving Everton last summer when he was replaced by Marco Silva.
Naturally, some Villa fans haven’t taken too kindly to the ex-England boss wading in on the club’s summer transfer business.
He doesn’t really have much of a point either.
The vast majority of the club’s new recruits are decent investments for the future and it looks like an exciting time to be an Aston Villa supporter.
Here is a selection of tweets from Villa supporters in response to Allardyce’s comments:
Without being disrespectful he is talking garbage.

Can't spend 100mil on 3 players when we lost 14 senior players.
3 already here – bargain deals on El Ghazi and Hause
Wesley and Engels played together
Trezeguet plays with Elmo
Jota and Konsa have been under Smith before
More strategic than you think.#AVFC

Can someone ask him how signing 3 players would improve our squad depth when we released 11?

Clueless idiot! Just look at what we released and have a look In detail what we have bought!
We could still play the playoff final team apart from Axel and Tammy.
We needed some pace and defenders!
But what would you know Sam anyway! ???? #avfc @talkSPORT #cluelesssam

Showing once again how out of touch he is with the game. Villa lost 14 players this summer. Three have been resigned and the rest are upgraded on what we had before that HAD to be replaced. Is Sam suggesting we should’ve started the season with just 11 players? 🤦🏻♂️

Would love to know how he expects us to release 11 players but only sign 3

Stupid comments. The number of loan and out of contract players that left meant that with just 3 signings we'd have been massively short. Why are these boring old dinosaurs still given air time 😴😴😴

Talking rubbish we've released a load of players that needed replacing, if Sam came villa he'd try and get Kevin Nolan out of retirement. Just promoted and wants to spend £100 mil on 3 players what a stupid comment.

Little or no research done again, before debating the subject. 10 or more players released or returned to parent clubs, but hey, let’s sign 3 to compete in the premier league?! Clueless, club have spent wisely, not all will work, but we’ve given ourselves a chance…..

And that explains the difference between Allardyce and Smith. Smith will coach players, he'll make them better. Allardyce prefers going for the finished article. Mark my words at least 80% of the players we have signed this window will make us a profit, guaranteed. 🦁 #avfc #utv
