Aston Villa should raid Brentford for 23-year-old winger

Aston Villa will play in the Premier League next season following their Play-Off Final victory over Derby County on Monday.

Dean Smith’s men were languishing in mid-table entering March but a remarkable run of results saw them into the top-six and ultimately into the top-flight.

Since Monday’s win over the Rams, Villa seem to have been linked with hundreds of players. Of course, they will enter the transfer market for new additions but it remains to be seen which reported links are accurate.

The Sun is reporting that Neal Maupay could be the subject of a £20 million by Aston Villa. The Frenchman scored 25 goals in the Championship last season and it was Smith who signed him for Brentford.

Returning to Griffin Park for a raid on their star players isn’t such a bad idea. Brentford play some of the most attractive football in the second tier, but the interest shouldn’t be solely on Maupay.

In 2017 Smith plucked Ollie Watkins from Exeter City for a fee of £1.8 million, according to the Bristol Post. Last season he scored 12 goals and registered nine assists from the flanks and Villa would be wise to pursue his signature.

The 23-year-old has all the attributes to play in the Premier League. He is a big, strong winger who likes to get at his opponent, whilst he is also capable of chipping in with a few goals.

With Albert Adomah expected to depart following promotion, Villa will be scouring for a winger and Watkins could prove a decent investment for the future.
