Aston Villa are now ready to finalise another signing after announcing Samuel Iling-Junior, Enzo Barrenechea and Ross Barkley on Monday.

Monchi – Director of Football at Villa Park – and Unai Emery are wasting no time in bolstering the squad this summer, with plans now in place to complete another deal.

So, who are Aston Villa now ready to sign? Let’s take a look…

Aston Villa ready to complete Jaka Bijol deal

A story from Mondo Udinese now claims that Aston Villa are ready to “close” a deal to sign Jaka Bijol.

This pursuit seems to be moving quickly, as it was only on Monday when Tutto Mercato Web revealed that the Villans had made contact with Udinese to enquire about the Slovenia international.

Bijol managed to keep the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes quite with a superb display in the Euro 2024 Round of 16 clash against Portugal on Monday, which Slovenia lost on penalties, a performance which led Alan Shearer to call him “absolutely outstanding” when speaking on BBC Sport.

Now, with the 25-year-old leaving Euro 2024, he is free to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical, something Aston Villa seem ready to engage in according to Mondo Udinese.

The Italian news outlet add that Udinese are demanding €18m (£15m) for Bijol, but mention that this figure shouldn’t be problematic for Aston Villa.

Monchi might have stumbled across a gem

It is always risky to sign players based on a major tournament, as motivation levels are understandably much higher when representing your nation on the world stage.

However, Monchi might have stumbled across a diamond, as Bijol played like a £50m defender against Portugal, and could represent a bargain at £15m – especially given the fact he is only 25 years of age.

As SofaScore shows, the Slovenian made ten clearances in Monday’s Euro 2024 Round of 16 clash, along with three blocks and two tackles, while he was also quite tidy in possession.

It takes a lot to keep the likes of Ronaldo, Fernandes, Bernardo Silva and Rafael Leao quiet for 120 minutes, but that is exactly what Bijol did as he marshalled Slovenia’s defence superbly.
