Aston Villa’s need for a new right-back is fairly clear. Alan Hutton is getting no younger, James Bree has struggled when given a chance and Ahmed Elmohamady’s defensive attributes leave plenty to be admired.
The club has finally secured a new right-sided full-back. As reported by the Express and Star, French talent Frederic Guilbert is due to sign for the club. He will reportedly cost £4.4 million and Aston Villa fans can be excited about his arrival.
However, he will not be joining up straight away. Instead, Aston Villa will be allowing him to stay at his current club Caen on loan for the rest of the season.

It appears this might be the man Dean Smith wants and was perhaps the only way a deal could be done.
But Aston Villa needed a new right-back in now. Tyrone Mings’ arrival will solve the issues at left-back but not securing Guilbert immediately seems an oversight.
The same Express and Star report also suggests Bree is off to join Ipswich Town on loan, so Aston Villa will be even shorter in that position.
Hopefully, Guilbert will go on to become an Aston Villa star. But not signing him right now seems like an error.
