Aston Villa new-boy Tom Heaton 'pleasantly surprised' by how well he's settled in

New Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton says he has settled in well at the club and has been ‘pleasantly surprised’ since his summer move from Burnley.

As per the Birmingham Mail, Heaton has praised the atmosphere around his new club where he was taking a step into the unknown.

He said: “Coming in here has been pleasantly surprising, actually. There are some really good lads and staff. We have an excellent dressing room. Coming from Burnley, that was probably our unique selling point up there, how good the dressing room was.

“Having been at Burnley for so long, I think it is known in football how good things are there. I wouldn’t say I came here with trepidation, just the unknown. Having set foot in the building I have loved every minute so far.”

The response to Villa’s summer spending spree has been to compare them to Fulham, who went on a splurge last summer after winning the Championship play-offs but went straight back down with a gutless squad.

But Villa have done their business earlier, got some loan players they already had and made a point of signing good characters like Heaton.

His words indicate that Villa haven’t lost their identity or togetherness despite bringing in 12 players – which may surprise some observers in the same way it’s clearly taken the stopper aback.
