Aston Villa new signing Bjorn Engels is the latest man Dean Smith has turned to in order to bolster his defence ahead of the new Premier League season.
Villa confirmed the move on their official website yesterday, with the towering defender continuing Smith’s spending spree as he gears up for the top flight.
Engels said: “I know the way [Smith] wants to play, we spoke about it and I think I will fit into that style. He doesn’t just want to be a part of the Premier League. He wants results and to get as high as possible.”
And the defender also took to Twitter to state how excited he is about the switch, stating it was a dream to get the chance to play in the Premier League.

Of course, it’s always a risk for a club to splash out on a player who has never played in England before, let alone the top flight.
But Engels is strong in the air and on the ground, and offers more experience than the likes of Axel Tuanzebe, whose place he looks most likely to take in the Villa backline.
Villa’s fans will be hoping that their new faces can gel quickly, and that Engels can adapt to the demands of English football sooner rather than later.
