It has been a tough start to the new season for Aston Villa, who have failed to ignite in 2025-26 yet under Unai Emery.
The Birmingham-based outfit have won just two of their opening seven Premier League games and Villa find themselves in the bottom half of the table.
Aston Villa signed Evann Guessand over the summer but were limited in the transfer market due to financial fair play rules.
However, one attacking midfielder that has yet to make an impact at Villa Park after joining on loan could be the catalyst for an uptick in performances for Emery’s men.

Villa need Harvey Elliott’s creativity
One thing that has been evident in the early part of the season is that Villa are lacking creativity in midfield, especially following the departure of Marco Asensio.
Harvey Elliott joined the Villans on loan from Liverpool late in the transfer window, but has been limited to fleeting substitute appearances so far.
The 22-year-old playmaker has been introduced from the bench by Emery on three occasions this season but is yet to show the form that made him part of Liverpool’s silverware-laden squad in recent times.
If Villa are to move up the table and have a tilt at Europa League success, integrating Elliott into the first team is required.
Goal-shy Villa need a creative spark
There is no shortage of endeavour or effort in the Villa midfield, but Emery’s men lack a creative talent to unlock opposition defences.

The Villa Park outfit have only scored six Premier League goals so far this season and look a shadow of the side that was so dangerous last term.
Elliott clearly has work to do to convince Emery that he can be a regular starter for Villa, but his range of passing, creativity and eye for goal could be real assets for the Birmingham-based side.
With a trip to Tottenham coming up after the international break, Elliott could be the catalyst to get Villa’s season on track.
