Aston Villa fans rue the one that got away as Neal Maupay scores again

Aston Villa are fourth from bottom in the Premier League and face a fight to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

Dean Smith’s team have won just four of their 17 league games and must find a winning formula.

No fewer than 12 new additions were made during the summer. There’s an argument to suggest that maybe too many new faces were added to the ranks.

One man who wasn’t added to the Villa squad, despite links with a switch, was Neal Maupay.

The 23-year-old eventually signed for Brighton and netted his seventh goal in last night’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.

At £16 million (BBC Sport) he was cheaper than the fee Villa paid for Wesley and he’s had a better impact in the Premier League.

The uncompromising Belgian has netted four goals and there seems a real worry as to whether or not he is capable of firing Villa to safety.

Following Maupay’s goal for the Seagulls last night, Villa fans have taken to Twitter to vent their frustration over the one that got away.
