Aston Villa must step up their Hudson-Odoi chase amid Premier League interest

With the January transfer window now just over a month away, Aston Villa are expected to be busy.

The Villans have a new manager in Dean Smith and there could be several incoming transfers and player exits too.

One player that has been linked with a move to Aston Villa is Chelsea starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi.

According to The Birmingham Mail, Hudson-Odoi is a loan target for Smith’s men in January.

Chelsea are willing to let the 18-year-old leave on loan to get first-team action under his belt.

But with recent reports linking Southampton and Burnley with a move for Hudson-Odoi, Aston Villa face a challenge.

With Premier League competition, Aston Villa face an uphill task in convincing Chelsea that he would be better off in the Championship.

The talented teenager has plenty of natural talent but with just seven first-team games to his name so far, he needs experience elsewhere.

Aston Villa would probably be able to offer the England under-19 international more first-team assurances than Burnley and Southampton.

And perhaps Hudson-Odoi would fancy being with a promotion-challenging side, rather than potentially being dragged into a relegation scrap in the top flight.

But one thing is for certain; if Aston Villa want to land Hudson-Odoi, they must act quickly to get it over the line.
