Aston Villa must prioritise Tyrone Mings swoop after missing out on Christian Fuchs

Aston Villa have failed in their attempt to sign Leicester City defender Christian Fuchs on loan until the end of the season, Sky Sports News reports.

Fuchs was a top target for Aston Villa but Leicester have their reservations about letting him leave.

Ben Chilwell is the first-choice left-back at Leicester and Claude Puel wants to keep Fuchs as his back-up.

But despite missing out on the 32-year-old Austrian defender, Aston Villa must continue to prioritise the left-back department.

Neil Taylor has operated in that position this season but has drawn plenty of criticism for some underwhelming displays.

Dean Smith knows that he needs to upgrade on the Welshman and the perfect candidate might be Tyrone Mings.

According to The Express and Star, Aston Villa will rival West Brom and Nottingham Forest for Bournemouth left-back Mings.

The 25-year-old will be made available for loan after Brentford defender Chris Mepham joined the Cherries.

And Mings is the ideal man to provide Smith with a new first-choice left-back, as well as cover at centre-back.

The towering 6ft 5in defender is comfortable in both positions, making him a useful versatile option for Aston Villa’s leaky defence.

Despite being out of favour at Bournemouth, the ex-Ipswich Town full-back would thrive if he dropped down a division to join a Championship team.

With little time left in the transfer window, Mings must now be Aston Villa’s number one target.
