Leeds United are closing in on the signing of Keiren Westwood, according to The Mirror’s Live Transfer Blog [11th December, 08:08AM].
Westwood has been frozen out by Sheffield Wednesday and he is on the verge of joining Leeds on a free transfer.
Leeds need a new goalkeeper with Jamal Blackman’s broken leg meaning he has been sent back to parent club Chelsea.
But Aston Villa also need a new goalkeeper and they should be alerted to Westwood’s availability.
With the 34-year-old available on a free transfer, this is a bargain move for the Villans and one that provides a much-needed short-term fix in the goalkeeper department.

Orjan Nyland has been Aston Villa’s first-choice stopper this season but his performances have been inconsistent and riddled with errors.
Over the course of the season, this could be costly in a promotion push.
Westwood is an experienced goalkeeper at Championship level and Sheffield Wednesday fans have been left confused by his continued omission.
The ex-Republic of Ireland international still has the ability to oust Nyland and take the number one spot at Aston Villa.
And if Westwood is available on a free transfer, this seems a no-brainer for Dean Smith, who needs to bring in a new stopper in January.
