Aston Villa reportedly keen on Porto striker valued at £34 million
Aston Villa have been linked with a staggering £34 million move for Porto striker Moussa Marega, according to reports in Portugal, as quoted by Birmingham Live.
Apparent interest was rife last summer but the Villans, then led by Steve Bruce, fell at the final hurdle in their promotion quest, losing in the play-off final.
The striker has 19 goals and 11 assists for the 2018/19 campaign and on that basis, Villa probably won’t be the only club interested in his services.
Dean Smith’s side have won a remarkable 10 games on the spin and look destined for a place in the Championship play-offs. The Villa boss will hope to go one better than Bruce last season and lead his team back into the Premier League.
If Aston Villa can pull this deal off it would send shockwaves around some of the teams in the Premier League. His quality is evident and it would also show their top-flight rivals that Villa are there to compete.
Marega has been courted previously by some of Europe’s top clubs and should Villa pull off this sensational transfer it would be seen as a real coup. Of course, Premier League football will need to be guaranteed first.
Tammy Abraham has carried the goalscoring burden this season but will return to Chelsea next season when his loan expires. Replacing his goals will be a must for Smith and Marega can do that with absolute aplomb.
