Aston Villa linked with 23-year-old that Darren Bent called ‘such a good player’ last season
Aston Villa may reportedly target Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell this summer, who’s someone that earned high praise from Darren Bent last season.
According to 90min, Dean Smith’s side could end up turning their attention towards the English attacker.
The report explains he’s an alternative option to Bayer Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey.
Cantwell, 23, is a highly-rated talent that has spent his entire senior career at Carrow Road, barring a short-term loan to Fortuna Sittard.
The left-winger was a part of a Norwich team that secured promotion from the Championship last season as title winners. He hit six goals and made seven assists in the league.
Ex-Villa forward Bent interestingly was full of applause for him last season:
“Todd Cantwell’s such a good player, started the season linked to be going elsewhere, left out of the squad because his attitude wasn’t quite right, but he certainly looks focused now!” Bent said (February, 2021).
Cantwell would add even more firepower to Aston Villa
If Jack Grealish does go this summer, amid lots of speculation, Villa are still going to have an impressive group.
Emiliano Buendia’s arrival at Villa Park looks superb because he can add a real creative flair.
Meanwhile, it looks like the Midlands giants are determined to bring in another wide player in Bailey. However, Cantwell is as a different option for them.
Cantwell showed real promise during his only season in the Premier League to date, scoring six goals. He looks a lot maturer now after a year in the Championship, so he could bring some extra energy, work rate and skill to the squad.
Bent was spot on with his assessment of the Norwich dazzler last season. He looks to have all the tools to be a top player, so a step up at Villa Park could be the making of him.
