According to a recent report, Aston Villa are leading the race to sign a very highly rated striker in Europe this summer.

The Villans have made a rapid start to the summer transfer window having already signed Ross Barkley, Ian Maatsen, Samuel Iling-Junior, Lewis Dobbin and Enzo Barrenechea.

Though, they aren’t resting on their laurels as they are now targeting a centre-forward to add to their ranks.

That said, it’s believed Villa are front runners to land a sought-after striker from Germany.

Aston Villa lead race for Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier

According to German outlet Sport Bild, Aston Villa are thought to be leading the race to sign Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier.

Chelsea are also in a strong position to land Beier’s signature with the two clubs ahead of Liverpool, Manchester United and Brighton.

The 2002-born forward enjoyed a productive season in the Bundesliga last term, netting 16 times whilst laying on three assists – enough to scoop his side’s Player of the Season award.

Beier’s prolific form earned him a call-up to Germany’s Euro 2024 squad and he made one outing at the tournament against Switzerland.

Beier expected to join Premier League club

The outlet notes that they expect Beier to join a Premier League club this summer and he is open to the idea of a summer exit.

Though, he won’t rush to make a decision as he wants to join a club that will allow him regular playing time.

Any forthcoming suitors will likely have to pay around £25m – which is his release clause.

Hoffenheim are in need of a big sale this window, so they aren’t likely to stand in his way if an offer arrives.

In other news, Aston Villa have now stepped up their pursuit to sign a £59m attacker tipped to win the Ballon d’Or.
