FC Porto have reportedly made an offer of £4.5million to sign Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Kevin Trapp this summer, but surely he is perfect for Aston Villa in their search for a new man between the sticks.
French newspaper L’Equipe claim that Porto have tabled an offer of just £4.5million, with the 29-year-old seemingly surplus to requirements at Thomas Tuchel’s side. Porto want to replace Iker Casillas, after the Spaniard’s retirement.
Trapp, a three-time Germany international, clocked up 45 appearances on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt as the German side reached the Europa League semi-finals – eventually losing to Chelsea on penalties.
Trapp remains behind the likes of Alphonse Areola at PSG, and has just 12 months remaining on his contract at PSG. Porto are looking to take advantage, by luring Trapp to Portugal.
But Aston Villa desperately need a goalkeeper. Lovre Kalinic looks set to leave while Orjan Nyland does not seem to be in the picture following his long-term spell on the sidelines. Jed Steer is the club’s current number one.
But Steer is hardly seen as the long-term answer and certainly not the goalkeeper to guide Villa to Premier League safety. Dean Smith’s men have been linked with a whole host of goalkeepers this summer.
Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton, Stoke City’s Jack Butland and Stade Reims stopper Edouard Mendy have all been linked with a move to Villa. But none are close to a move to Villa Park as of yet.
For £4.5million, Trapp is the perfect summer signing. Available, a bargain, and in excellent form, the experienced Trapp would be the ideal recruit for the Midlands club if Dean Smith opts to go down that route.
