Simon Mignolet’s agent has reiterated his desire to secure his client a move away from Liverpool this summer, and Aston Villa have got to move for the Belgian goalkeeper.
The 31-year-old’s agent has told Belgian outlet DH that the goalkeeper should leave Anfield this summer, after the former Sunderland stopper managed just two appearances throughout the entire 2018-19 campaign.
“The goalkeeper game of musical chairs hasn’t started yet. It’s important for Simon to play somewhere, and our goal is still to make him leave,” Mignolet’s agent said.
Mignolet has spent six years since his £9million to Anfield from Sunderland, and has clocked up a total of 204 appearances in all competitions. He has two years remaining on his contract at Liverpool.
But with Alisson without doubt the club’s number one goalkeeper, Mignolet needs to leave if he wants game time – rather than rotting away on the Reds bench – and Aston Villa desperately need a new goalkeeper.

Aston Villa have been linked with moves for a number of goalkeepers, including Jack Butland, Tom Heaton, Edouard Mendy and more. Butland is worth a whopping £20million, while a move for Heaton is yet to materialise.
Stade Reims stopper Mendy has no Premier League experience. Surely Mignolet would be the best option, given that he is only earning £60,000 a week (Spotrac) at Liverpool.
It remains to be seen how much Liverpool would want for Mignolet, but given they only paid £9million for his signature in 2013 and that his agent is pushing for a move – he would surely be allowed to leave on the cheap.
It is a move that suits all parties. Mignolet gets first-team football in the Premier League, Liverpool bring in a fee and get his pay cheque off the wage bill and Aston Villa solve their goalkeeping crisis.
