Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton has offered fans an update on the injury he suffered against Burnley on New Year’s Day.
On Match of the Day 2, Heaton was asked how his recovery is going and said he is making progress with his recovery.
He said: “I’m making progress. It’s going to be a longer one but we’re making slow progress. It’s still sinking in. I’ve got it in perspective. I’ll be back, I don’t fear the rehab. I’ve had the shoulder in the last few years.
“I know I can get back and be at it. With the Euros in the summer, how much I was enjoying with it with Villa, it’s still hurting at the moment.”

TBR’s View – Villa fans should be buoyed by his optimism
A serious injury at the age of 33, which Heaton is, can prove the end of a career. Obviously the goalposts are slightly different for goalkeepers but Heaton’s claim he knows he’ll be back to his best should buoy Villa fans.
Serious injuries are always a nightmare and there are no guarantees but for older players the consequences can be worse.
So Villa fans will hope to see the best of Heaton between the sticks at Villa Park and keep their fingers crossed his recovery carries on going in the right direction.
It’s no surprise Heaton also mentioned the European Championship in the summer. Most England players likely alright have their eye on it – take Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford with their injuries – and Heaton would have hoped to be in the squad.
That has gone now and Heaton can focus his energy into getting back fit for Villa.
