Aston Villa goalkeeper talent ‘buzzing’ at Scottish loan move

Aston Villa currently have a stacked deck in the goalkeeper position. Jed Steer, Orjan Nyland, and Lovre Kalinic are all presently in the first-team squad. It left little room for youngster Matija Sarkic, who exited the club on loan last month.

The Montenegro youth international has headed to Livingston on loan for the season. The Scottish side lost number one Liam Kelly to QPR in the summer and Sarkic has been brought in to fight for the number one spot.

Yesterday, Sarkic made his debut for the West Lothian side against Slovakian outfit Sered in a 1-1 draw. Speaking to the BBC after the game, the Aston Villa youngster could not hide his excitement at his loan switch.

“I’m buzzing. A massive opportunity. It is a good platform.

“I am always up for a challenge. I am confident I can take the number one spot, but it’s healthy for the team to have competition.”

Aston Villa fans will no doubt wish Sarkic all the best. The 21-year-old joined the club from Anderlecht in 2015 and has struggled to make his way into the first-team picture.

A report from the Birmingham Mail in 2017 suggested Sarkic had signed a new deal at Aston Villa until the summer of 2020. Therefore, this may be Sarkic’s last chance to prove that he is capable of being a first-teamer at Aston Villa going forward.

Hopefully, he can prove he is worth a shot at Villa Park going forward.
