Aston Villa host Bournemouth on Saturday in the Premier League – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have pleaded the case for Matt Targett and Frederic Guilbert to be promoted to the starting XI.
The Midlands giants put in an encouraging performance on their return to the top-flight last weekend, but eventually let a lead slip to suffer a 3-1 away defeat to Tottenham.
Manager Dean Smith sprung a slight surprise in that match, as he named Neil Taylor and Ahmed Elmohamady in the full-back positions.
The defensive pair were key in promotion from the Championship last season and were rewarded with starts against Spurs.
But there is serious competition in the full-back area this campaign and some may have expected them to miss out.
Targett has joined from Southampton to rival Taylor for Villa’s left-back position, while Guilbert has joined the squad to challenge Elmohamady at right-back.
A selection of Villa supporters on social media want to see change in the full-back area ahead of the home clash with Bournemouth.
They should be on the front foot in search of three points at home and fans want to see a refection of that in the team.
Targett, who joined for around £11million (Sky Sports), will surely come into the side soon and looks a level above Taylor.
Meanwhile, Guilbert joined the club from Caen back in January but has only linked up with the squad this summer.
Here are some Villa fans urging Smith to promote Targett and Guilbert to the XI against Bournemouth:
Personally would go Guilbert and Targett next week and go attacking. Try and play on the front foot as much as possible.

Especially at home that we need to throw everything at, personally I would like Guilbert and Targett to start Saturday I would also like Jota to come in for El Ghazi. I’m no Fan of Coner in the DM role but he had a decent game for sheer excitement I would like to see Luiz or Nama

I wouldn’t mind Guilbert and Targett playing against Bournemouth Luke they do offer something different to Elmo and Taylor.

Both Elmo and Taylor played well against spurs but with Bournemouth at home a game where we have to force the issue more would replace them both with guilbert and targett as they are more forward thinking full backs ?

Same team as Saturday for me, except with Guilbert & Targett at full back.

Taylor And Elmo I would see as more defensive options to play against the top 6, targett and guilbert are much better attacking wise and we should attack from the off against Bournemouth imo
