Olivier Giroud may reportedly be offloaded by Chelsea in the January transfer window – and some Aston Villa fans on Twitter have suggested targeting him.
According to the Telegraph, Chelsea may listen to bids for the centre-forward when the transfer window re-opens due to his lack of minutes at Stamford Bridge this season.
The report details that Crystal Palace and West Ham are two potential suitors for him.
Giroud has played just six first-team games this campaign for Chelsea, with Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi both above him in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
The 33-year-old is still a regular starter for World Cup holders France despite his lack of minutes at club level and is a proven finisher that is also excellent in the air.
He is a target man with 78 goals in 224 Premier League games during spells with Chelsea and Arsenal, which is the type of experience Villa lack.
A selection of Villa supporters on social media feel that targeting Giroud would make sense in the New Year and that he could add some extra quality.
Wesley Moraes, 22, is still adapting to his role as first-choice striker following his summer arrival and Chelsea’s veteran attacker would provide great competition.
Here are some Villa fans on Giroud:
