Aston Villa fans rip into £30m player who lost possession 17 times vs Brentford, ‘sold in summer’

Aston Villa fans have been ripping into their players following their disappointing Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Brentford.

The Villans were desperate for a positive result in the Carabao Cup as a respite from their Premier League woes so far this season.

However, they ended up drawing 1-1 with Brentford before going out on penalties, with John McGinn and Matty Cash missing woefully with their attempts.

While Aston Villa fans were unhappy with both McGinn and Cash, there was another player they felt was really poor against the Bees.

Aston Villa fans rip into Evann Guessand following Brentford loss

Villa supporters were not impressed by Evann Guessand’s display, criticising his first touch and claiming he was little more than a passenger most of the game.

One fan said of Cash on X: “Actually thought he played well. Don’t get me started on Guessand and his brick of a first touch.”

Another supporter wrote: “Guessand is a bit mid, doesn’t seem to have the quality for the Prem.”

The criticism kept coming, with one fan saying: “I’ve never been wrong about a player we’ve signed and unfortunately Evan Guessand just isn’t cut out for the English game at the top.”

Another supporter wrote: “Seriously looks like Guessand needs a full season to get up to scratch.”

Another fan said: “Guessand so far is failing to convince me he’s good enough! This is going to be a long season wow the fall off is mad.”

And another wrote: “Guessand, early days I know but just doesn’t look anything special at all. Is he or Sancho going to produce more than Bailey would’ve?”

Evann Guessand stats vs Brentford

Guessand, making his fourth consecutive appearance for Villa, spent much of the game rotating with Harvey Elliott, who made a big impact on his full debut.

Meanwhile, the £30million signing from Nice offered little for the Villans, with his first touch in particular leaving a lot to be desired.

Guessand was dispossessed 17 times in the game, and won just three of his 11 ground duels on the night, along with attempting one dribble but not completing it.

In terms of more positive contributions, Guessand completed 16 of his 19 passes for an accuracy of 84 percent, and he chipped in with two interceptions, two tackles and a clearance.
