Andre Green has posted a farewell message to Aston Villa fans on Twitter – and some have responded to wish him the best of luck in the future and there are suggestions that allowing his exit will prove to be a mistake.

The English attacker joined the Midlands club at the age of nine and came rising through the the academy system, before making 49 first-team appearances for them.

He was part of the group that earned promotion from the Championship in the 2018/19 campaign, but spent last season out on loan with spells at Preston North End and Charlton Athletic.

Villa decided not to extend his contract this summer meaning he’s now a free agent, while fellow academy graduates Callum O’Hare and Jake Doyle-Hayes were also let go.

Green uploaded a goodbye post on his official Twitter account thanking the club for his opportunity.

A selection of Villa supporters on social media are sad to see the quick winger depart, as he was born locally in Solihull and was a highly-rated talent to come out of the academy.

There were some fans who believe allowing the 22-year-old’s exit could be an error, with one suggesting it could be a similar scenario to ex-player Marc Albrighton.

Albrighton, 30, is a winger that came from the Villa academy system and ended up leaving in 2014, since then he’s become a Premier League title-winner and played Champions League football with Leicester City.
