Aston Villa have announced that Tom Carroll has exited the club after his loan spell in the Midlands – and many of the club’s supporters on Twitter mocked his spell with them.

The Midlands giants confirmed (official Twitter) that the 26-year-old has gone back to parent club Swansea City after being ruled out for the rest of the season.

Carroll joined Villa in January on loan for the remainder of the campaign, but has now undergone a hip operation and has gone back to the Liberty Stadium.

The central midfielder made just two appearances for Dean Smith’s side and they both came from the bench as a substitute.

He found it difficult to break into a midfield with a lot of competition and that has been made harder by the return of talisman Jack Grealish.

Villa have won their last five league games on the spin to jump up to sixth in the Championship table and are looking to secure a play-off spot.

A selection of Villa fans have reacted sarcastically to Carroll’s exit and believe he was a panic buy in the first place at the start of the year.

The left-footed ace will now have to build up his return to fitness ahead of next year, when Smith’s side will hope they have Premier League football.
