Aston Villa fans react to reports linking Smith’s men with Aaron Hickey

A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to comment on recent reports from the Daily Record suggesting that the Villans are interested in Aaron Hickey.

Dean Smith’s men are gearing up for their second season back in the Premier League after securing survival on the final day.

And while the fans will be hoping to see exciting additions ready to make an immediate impact next season, it appears that Smith also has one eye on the future.

The Daily Record reports that Hickey is on Villa’s radar. However, the club face a lot of competition for the 18-year-old’s signature.

The Record notes that Bologna lead the race for the £1.5 million-rated starlet. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are also interested in the Hearts youngster.

It is noted that Hickey is not interested in joining a club where he is unlikely to play. So a move may perhaps be a gamble for Villa given that some may have their concerns about how Hickey would initially get on in the Premier League.

‘Just the signing we need’

The supporters however, seem extremely pleased to see their club linked with the prospect. Hickey made his senior debut as a 16-year-old and has already produced some superb performances for his current side.

They take further confidence from the calibre of the clubs also reportedly monitoring Hickey. And they are delighted to see Villa look to the future with a player who could potentially become a key man for his next club for years to come.
