Scott Hogan has returned to pre-season training with Aston Villa earlier than expected, according to Birmingham Live.
They report that Hogan was entitled to an extended break having taken part in the European Championship qualifiers for the Republic of Ireland.
But he has apparently cut it short in order to impress Dean Smith, get fit and firing ahead of Villa’s return to the Premier League, while the other internationals are away.
It remains to be seen whether Hogan is getting himself fit in order to secure a move elsewhere, but many Villa fans have been impressed with his attitude anyway.
They have seen their fair share of players just take the wages and not put in any effort for the club, so the Villa supporters took to Twitter to praise the striker for his attitude.
With Tammy Abraham leaving the club to return to Chelsea, perhaps Smith could use an extra striker as he seeks to keep Villa in the top flight – stranger things have happened.
Some supporters want Hogan to be given a chance on the back of his impressive attitude in the close season…
Fair play to him. We have had our fair shower of wasters at the club nice to see him try

Good lad. Great attitude. Smith strikes me as a man where the door is always open if you work hard, unlike Bruce #avfc

More time to work on those wonderfully timed runs off the ball

Scott Hogan, despite his difficulties at Villa; and aside from his ability, never struck me as anything other than a top guy with a good attitude. I hope he gets his time to shine at some point – he deserves it.

Had a tough time at villa, but never through lack of trying. Good lad Scotty.

Give him a chance. We could use his pace.

Everyone should give the man credit for turning up for training early. Positive attitude should be applauded, not smeared down with unnecessary negative comments. UTV!

Am I the only one that doesn’t mind him? He’s not been great for the money, but his attitude and work ethic have been superb

Good lad. What most fans don’t realise is strikers are mostly over-valued nowadays. You either have to pay £100mil to get an all rounder or buy someone who excels in one style. Unfortunately for Hogan Bruce bought a counter-attacking, through ball specialist and lobbed him passes

Scenes when he comes on and scores 15 goals as a super sub in the prem

Impressed with the level of positivity from fans on Hogan. Respecting him for always trying.

Fair play to him good attitude whether he’s getting fit for us or for a move doesn’t matter to me – at least he’s not just draining money he’s prepared to work
