Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn is set to miss the EFL Cup quarter final clash against Liverpool tonight, according to the Daily Mail.
They report that McGinn has been struggling with a thigh problem, thought to have been picked up on international duty with Scotland.
He apparently had a scan after last month’s 2-0 win against Newcastle and has been having painkilling injections to get through matches.
McGinn has reportedly only returned to full training last week, having been unable to take a full part in previous weeks.

Some Villa fans on Twitter are annoyed that McGinn has been playing through the pain barrier, in matches against Manchester United, Chelsea and Leicester, from which they have only taken one point.
Those matches are perhaps not perceived as winnable as the festive run of fixtures Villa have, with Southampton, Norwich and Watford to come after the Liverpool cup clash.
They saw James Chester do himself some serious damage by playing through the pain last season and hope that McGinn doesn’t do the same this year.
