Aston Villa are set to offer goalkeeper Jed Steer an extended Villa Park deal, according to a report by the Sun.
They report that Dean Smith is keen to tie down the 26-year-old stopper, who has just a year left on his current contract.
The report eludes to the fact that Jack Butland may soon come in as Villa’s number one goalkeeper, but Smith wants to keep Steer as part of his pre-season plans and resolve his future.
Steer was of course between the sticks as Villa got themselves back into the Premier League via the play-offs in May, but is inexperienced at top flight level.

But Villa fans took to Twitter to praise their club for apparently kickstarting negotiations for the glovesman, irrespective of Butland’s potential arrival or anything else.
They recognise what he did for the club last season and many of them feel that he has earned his shot at the Premier League.
At the very least, it surely makes sense to preserve the value of a player who still has plenty of service left in him and reward a play-off hero for his work…
